The Kingdoms of Magic Book 5 Excerpt
An eerie sound fills the Duchess's bedroom as green swirling smoke appears, surrounded by purple wisps. As the smoke dissipates, Starania and her accompaniment are in the middle of the room.
Starania is standing in front of her four Tarkin warriors. Just behind them are Starania’s two Guardians.
Duchess Dielos is by her closet sorting out her cloths from a trunk. Her maid is helping her. Startled by the sound she turns and sees them.
Duchess Dielos says angrily, “You again! How dare you come in my room!” She yells, “Guards! Guards!” but they don’t come.
There are no guards posted near her room as there had been in the Castle.
The four warriors quickly grab the Duchess and her maid, two on each. Hands are held over their mouths and their arms are held behind them. Starania orders the one warrior
holding the Duchess to hold out her arm. He does. The Duchess struggles to get free as does the maid. She orders the warrior to do the same with the maid.
Starania reaches in her pouch
and pulls out a long-legged, hairy, dark purple spider with an orange dot encircled with green on its back.
Starania, looking at the Duchess intently, moving her head from side to side with a big grin, says, “My little friend here will make you both a little more amenable.”
