The Kingdoms of Magic Book 7 Excerpt

In King Shadak’s Great Hall, Duchess Dielos and her maid are tied up to chairs in front of Shadak’s Throne.  He sits there, waiting for them to awaken.

Starania comes up to the King, bows and says, “My King, it shouldn’t be long now before they awaken.  We shouldn’t push it.  Trying to wake her too soon could kill her.  It’s just the nature of the spider’s venom.”

King Shadak says, “I will heed your advice.  She is a very valuable asset to us.”  He summons Ectar who comes to him and bows.

Ectar asks, “Yes My Lord, what do you need of me?”

King Shadak looks at Dielos with great interest and orders, “Bring in two small tables and put them in front of our guests. Put their kind of food on them, and their type of drink, too.  Use our finest silver settings for Dielos, as she is royalty.  Use regular settings for the maid.”

Ectar says, “My Lord, I am not sure what they eat.”

King Shadak says, “Different kinds of fruits, nuts, breads and cheeses.  I know because I’ve been to some of their gatherings at the Castle.”

Ectar says, “My King, we don’t have any of that kind of food.”

King Shadak says, “Send a human runner to the Castle.
Have him get what you need from Rummel at the bakery, and be sure to bring lots of wine.  It will make the night go much more smoothly.  And do it quickly.  Also, put a candle on the Duchess’s table.  Use the gold candle holder with the Dragon holding a candle in its claw.  Then set up a table beside me and bring me some food on our finest silver.”

Ectar bows and says, “It will be done my Lord,” and leaves quickly.
