The Kingdoms of Magic Book 8 Excerpt
High in the sky and flying with all her might and speed, Tessa, the Scout Fairy from Jude’s Point is on her way to the Queen’s Fairy Palace with news of the Skavian Ships. . . .
She knows she has no time to lose in getting to the palace and notifying the Queen, but she sees a Shadow Hawk. Its huge wings are spread out and circling about sixty feet below her.
They
are the only creature on the island faster than fairies. She is near the Gnomes’ Lair and Slyth Nest where she knows there is a ravine in which she may be able to elude the killer Hawk.
She decides to make a
run for it. She dives at an incredible rate of speed, hitting the Shadow Hawk’s right wing with tremendous force, damaging it and sending feathers flying in all directions.
The Hawk is wounded, knocked off
balance and sent into an uncontrolled spin. The Hawk finally straightens out then spots his attacker. The Hawk, extremely angered, dives down, in quick pursuit of the fairy, hoping for its first meal of the
day. The Shadow Hawk’s eyes are glued steadfast her and he’s getting closer and closer. The Hawk, now opening its beak up to maximum, is getting ready to chomp down on the little Fairy.
He makes a quick
thrust, slashing at Tessa, slicing her leg and ripping off part of her right wing. She lets out a pained yelp. As she weaves into the ravine, she sees a huge Slyth not far in front of her, opening its
mouth. The Shadow Hawk is quickly closing in on her and is about to snap her up. Tessa’s heart pounds rapidly as she thinks, “Oh God, now I’m really done for.” With no other way to go, she whizzes within
striking distance of the Slyth. The Slyth makes a lightening-fast strike past her and snatches the Shadow Hawk out of the air with incredible speed.
With the smashing sound of bones breaking, the massive impact
sends both creatures skidding along the ground and hitting a ravine wall with a loud thud. Speeding on with a heavy sigh of relief, Tessa yells, “Thanks! Urgent message for the Queen!” and heads to the palace.
