The Kingdoms of Magic Book 9 Excerpt

Talease, surprised, comes forward and says, “Excuse me my Queen; I am surprised you know my name.  I come from Kings Point with news.”

Queen Elise, smiling, says, “I make it my business to know all my Scout Fairies.  You and the others are very important to me. What news do you have?”

Talease, surprised at what she just heard about the Queen knowing each Scout Fairy’s name and how important they are to her, says, with a little stuttering, “Three Skavian ships have anchored off Port Royal’s harbor and about thirty long boats have landed on the beach. . . .  I saw about two hundred fifty Tarkins and Starkchans attack the bombers.
They were totally routed by Linnet’s fighters. . . .”

Queen Elise says earnestly, “Excellent reporting Talease.”

Talease timidly asks, “If I may ask a question my Queen?”

Queen Elise says, “By all means, go ahead.”

Talease, with a sad and worried look on her face, asks, “My Queen, I saw Tessa flying back to the palace with a message.  I saw her, with my own eyes, attack a Shadow Hawk to get a message to you. . . .  No Scout fairy has ever beaten one, ever,” she starts to cry, “I fear so for her.  Tessa is my best friend.  I saw her hit the hawk with all the flying speed she could muster. . . .  The hawk regained his flying attack and went after Tessa.  Tessa flew at a tremendous speed into the ravine at the Slyth’s nest with the hawk right behind her and closing in for the kill.  I did not see either of them after they entered,” crying harder, “Please tell me did she make it?”

Queen Elise is so taken by what Talease said that she gets out of bed, comes over, hugs her and says, “She’s ok.  She didn’t tell me what happened but did bring us the message.  She was pretty banged up to say the least, but I had no idea it was from a Hawk. That was very courageous of her.”
