The Kingdoms of Magic Book 9 Excerpt

Queen Elise is in her armor and wearing her weapons.  She is near her big bed.

A guard comes in and says, “My Queen, Captain Jamison is here to see you and the Lieutenant.  He has some hideous creatures with him.”

Queen Elise, puzzled, says, “Yes, show them in.”

Captain Jamison and Commander Kagarr enter.  Queen Elise turns to them and is astounded at the Gargoyle.  She has never seen one before.  As the Captain and Commander are bowing, Lieutenant Madison, seeing the Commander, quickly sits up and gets out of bed.
Holding his wound covered chest, he quickly walks over to the Commander.  With a troubled look in his eyes he says, “By your leave, My Queen.”  He turns to the Commander and demands, “Commander Kagarr, you would not be here unless something serious has happened.
What is it?”

The Queen is stunned to see to see Madison so troubled.

Commander Kagarr answers sorrowfully, “I am sorry to say, your father has been seriously wounded and requests for you to come immediately.  He feels that without your help the Kingdom will fall.”

Lieutenant Madison asks, “What kind of wound was it?”

Commander Kagarr replies, “He was hit in the chest with a spike from a Skavian ballista.”

Shocked, the Lieutenant demands, “When did this happen?”

The Commander replies, “At first light this morning.”

Lieutenant Madison says with relief, “Good!  There’s still time to save him!” then turns to the Queen, grabs her shoulders, looks her right in the eyes and says, “I have no choice.  I have to go.  You know what those spikes do.  If I don’t leave right now he will die.”
