THE U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE
is a branch of the U.S. Government that has been given the
responsibility to take care of all animal species within the
borders of the United States of America.
The USFWS is devided up into regions, each regulating
hunting and fishing in its area. The current areas are:
| 1 | Pacific Region | Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii |
| 2 | Southwest Region | Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas |
| 3 | Midwest Region | Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin |
| 4 | Southeast Region | Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, South Carolina, Tennessee |
| 5 | Northeast Region | Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Virginia, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts, West Virginia |
| 6 | Mountain-Prairie Region | Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming |
| 7 | Alaska Region | Alaska |
| 8 | Pacific Southwest Region | California, Nevada, Klamath Basin in Oregon |
Each Region also protects endangered species in their areas.
