This girl is sad because she has to wear a mask and the painting shows how that affects everything around her.
Originally intended to show that our emotions affect our
surroundings, Sad Girl is an oil I painted in 2017 but
finished in 2020 after the pandemic hit. All told it
took over three months to paint. By the time I finished
it, many people had lost their jobs. Stores in LA were
boarded up and our freedom of travel was taken away. And
sadly many people died. I put a mask on her to show how
sad things were at that time. It's a dated piece as it
commemorates one of the roughest times in the US. It's a piece of our history. READ LESS
