The Kingdoms of Magic Book 6 Excerpt

       A troupe of solders from the Castle has stopped near the front of the Country House.  One of the solders thought he saw some green smoke.
      Commander Rank is by some trees in the tall grass not far from the front of the Country House.  His men are behind him and the Sorceress is bringing back Starania and her party after the capture of Duchess Dielos in her bedroom.  Commander Rank is huddled down close to the ground, still clutching his sword with a tight grip ready to draw it, his eyes still steadfastly looking forward at the soldiers.  He starts to choke from the air but holds his hand over his mouth.
      Captain Wilkin from the Castle inquisitively asks again, “So what did you see?”
      The soldier, standing up in his stirrups looking around says, “I really thought I saw some green smoke for a moment, Sir.”
      The Captain, frustrated, says, “Back in formation soldier.  We have a mission to do.”  The solder gets back in formation and the troupe of solders moves forward to the Country House. . . .
      The Captain and his troupe dismount in the courtyard.  He and his Sergeant Moon are saluted by the guards at the front door.  They go into the house and are met by a servant.  She takes them to an ornate parlor.  He asks to see the Steward.  The servant goes for him.  A well dressed Steward enters the room.
      The Steward asks, “How can I be of assistance to you sir?”
      The Captain pulls out a piece of paper from his jacket which has his Royal orders on it and announces, “I am Captain Wilkin with orders from Commander Charles, Lord of the Keep.”  He hands the order to the Steward who reads it and hands it back.  We are here to escort all of you to the castle.  The Underworld is getting ready to attack the Castle.  We have already had a major Naval battle at Isis Inlet.  We will be leaving immediately.  Tell your staff to bring only what they need, and request Duchess Dielos to meet with me here, and do it quickly.  She is my main concern.  If Shadak gets ahold of her it could be disastrous.”
