The Kingdoms of Magic Excerpt from Book 4

Captain Jamison brings his ships in range of the five Skavian ships by the cliffs and starts bombarding.  Fire pots rain down, exploding on the Skavian decks.  Two of the enemy ships are set ablaze on first impact from the bombardment.

The remaining three are more in a position to retaliate.  They load their ballistae and shoot but do little or no damage with them but Lieutenant Madison, the main Pirate Ship’s surgeon, is hit with a spike from the side ripping part of his chest open and knocking him overboard.  His medical satchel brings him to the surface and keeps him afloat.

The Sirens grab him and take him below.  He struggles little as he is still dazed from the impact.  One of the Sirens looks at a medallion that’s around his neck.  It’s gold with an engraving of Poseidon on it and has the inscription, Poseidon’s Child.  She tries to take it from around his neck and it burns her hand.  She shows the other Siren as she realizes what it is and they take him to an outlet at the Cove of the Elders.  There they lay him on a slab of stone by a small cave entrance.
They leave as he starts to come around.

A Fairy Warrior near the Shallow Cliffs sees the sailor in trouble.
His shirt is torn and bloody.  As he gets a piece of cloth from his bag to hold over the wound on his chest, a pirate medallion with his name on it falls onto the stone slab.  Dazed and thus not noticing it has fallen out, he wipes the blood from his chest and puts the soiled cloth down beside him.  Still out of it, he gets another piece of cloth, puts some ointment on it and holds that against the wound.

Lieutenant Madison says in a low voice, “I really hate sowing myself up.”

The Fairy Warrior flies down to him and asks, “Who are you?”

He replies, as he starts to get up, “Lieutenant Madison, ship’s surgeon.  I was on Captain Jamison’s ship.”

She says, “We need your help.  Our Queen has been badly wounded with a spike.”

He agrees and she signals two other Fairy Warriors.  They fly down, pick him up and take him to the Fairies’ Palace.
